Beyond any single ethical tradition.
Ethical discussions around generative AI have often been shaped by frameworks developed within Western philosophical traditions.
Humanity in the Loop is exploring how AI ethics can move beyond reliance on any single intellectual or cultural tradition.
The project develops a transcultural approach: looking for points of dialogue, convergence and productive difference between ethical traditions rather than treating one framework as universally sufficient.

Ethical frameworks for generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in higher education: integrating Western and African perspectives

- Context sensitivity
- Virtue cultivation

- Desired outcomes
Where next?
From two traditions
to many.
The published framework is a starting point rather than an endpoint.
Its current scope focuses on Western and African ethical traditions. The wider Humanity in the Loop project creates an opportunity to test, challenge and extend that framework through engagement with additional philosophical, cultural and lived perspectives.
